Key messages
- Patients receiving targeted cancer therapies often show nail changes, including paronychia, pyogenic granuloma-like lesions and increased susceptibility to infection.
- Nail damage can affect activities of daily living, and require early recognition and treatment.
- An algorithm was developed to provide practical recommendations for the treatment of nail changes depending on presentation, severity, and number of nails affected.
- The staged recommendations move from potent topical steroids and antiseptic socks, to photodynamic therapy, aminolaevulinic acid, phenols, or partial matricectomy or electrodessication.
